Frequently Asked Questions

How many jurisdictions do you search?

We look at every jurisdiction the client has lived over the lookback period. If they lived there, we search it regardless of how many, it is all included in your price.

How do you know where a subject has a presence?

We utilize numerous databases and tools to service the current and historical presence of the subject. Previous mailing addresses, corporate affiliations, deal locations, and more. This directs our search to ensure no stone is left unturned.

Can I add additional subjects or new modules after a search is started?

Absolutely, regardless of when the search was started you can either add subjects yourself or send a note to our client relations team. We will promptly add the items to the existing search.

Do I have to use Alias’ standard searches or can we customize scopes?

While we try to tailor our searches to meet industry standards, many clients wish to further tailor or customize our products. We are happy to add or remove modules to create a custom scope for your firm.

Can you search internationally?

All the time – Alias has conducted searches in 100+ nations. Each country has unique requirements and availability of records. Let us know the countries of interest and we will notify you what can and cannot be searched in those nations.

What is a discrete source inquiry?

Most of the investigations industry relies on public records, databases, and other open-source intelligence. Discrete source inquiries involved human intelligence. This means that our skilled interviewers work to identify known associates of your subject and interview them in a journalistic approach to gather key information you seek. The subject will not be aware and the associates will not be aware who or what information the interviewer is gathering due to the journalistic nature of our approach. Most of these interviews involve 4 – 8 known associates.

Do I have to order discrete interviews with the investigation?

You can, or you can wait for the investigation results and pursue this service if required.

Do you provide the underlying documents found in the investigation?

Yes, whenever documents are available electronically, we will directly pull them; where courts are still non-electronic, we work with our court runners to retrieve and digitize the documents.

Are your searches conducted my human investigators or AI?

All Alias searches involve human investigators. While we heavily invest in artificial intelligence to optimize processes further and provide a superior product Alias has no intention of removing the human touch to this vital risk mitigation process.
